When I saw the name “Justin Harper” on a Pistons boxscore a few nights ago, I thought to myself, “Why does that name seem familiar?” After some intrepid internet sleuthing, I determined that Harper had indeed been in the NBA once before, all the way back in the 2011-12 season, when he played with the Stan Van Gundy-coached Magic. He scored sixteen points in the final game of that season, which makes me mad that I wasn’t yet making highlights at that point.
So that’s why the name is familiar. However, I had always operated under the assumption that Justin Harper was a white person. Justin is a very white person name, so you can’t blame me. From now on I promise not to make such assumptions.
I also admit to getting this guy confused with Justin Dentmon. Who is also not white. And also I was confusing him with Dennis Horner. So there’s that too. Luckily those guys are out of the league and are unlikely to ever come back.
