Mike James is continuing the proud tradition of chucker Suns point guards. Ever since Steve Nash left, the Suns have churned through a series of point guards who can score, but not really pass, and Mike James is just the latest in the trend. Goran Dragic was probably the least chuck-prone and most similar to Steve Nash, but subsequent point guards like Eric Bledsoe, Isaiah Thomas (RIP), Brandon Knight (RIP), Tyler Ulis (RIP?) and now Mike James (not RIP unless you’re talking about the other Mike James) are/were happy to shoot as many shots as they wanted.
I don’t know if it’s a coincidence, but the Suns have kinda sucked ever since Nash left. Shrug.
At this point I’m getting a little tired of Mike James. Call it highlights fatigue. Get Tyler Ulis back in there for the next ten games until I get tired of him too, then put Mike James back into the rotation. Or play Dragan Bender at the point. Bad teams have the opportunity to make exciting lineup decisions but they rarely do it to the degree that I crave.
