J.R. Smith 20 Points/6 Threes Full Highlights (2/7/2018)

You can tell the Cavaliers commentators are desperate for any signs of life out of the Cavaliers in general and J.R. Smith in particular. They’ve watched their team completely implode, they know the drama that surrounds LeBron and his cadre of overpaid role-player teammates, and they’ve sat through a few seasons of Smith bricks. Their collective sanity is hanging by a thread. So when Smith made his first five shots, they were obviously ecstatic. I think it’s great that they let Austin Carr leave the nursing home every once in a while to commentate these games, but his deranged cackling after Smith’s shots is more sad than endearing.

Everybody involved with the Cavs’ implosion knows that if these overpaid players could just make shots and play like they were supposed to, everything would be fine. Sure, LeBron might be coasting through games and not playing defense, but it’s not his fault that Isaiah Thomas is playing like he eats a big bowl of booty flakes at every timeout, or that Tristan Thompson regressed harder than LeBron’s hairline, or that J.R. Smith is a serial bricklayer who will randomly get hot for one game (this game) before going cold for the next five?

Watching all this Cavs drama from afar is sort of like watching a burning orphanage, except the firefighters are never coming to help, and the solution is just to toss orphans out the windows and hope somebody catches them (do you like my trade analogy?).
