Carlos Delfino is one of the few veterans on the young Rockets team. He provides savvy and wisdom that the other players don’t yet possess. Or something. I think that’s how it’s supposed to go, anyway.
But he has one gaping flaw in his game that, surprisingly, I haven’t seen other teams use against him. I found this trick out playing against the Argentinians at my local courts (there’s a lot of them for some reason). All you have to do, when they’re shooting, is yell “Falkland Islands” at them. It sounds weird, but it works!
As soon as you say those words they drop whatever they’re doing and starting ranting about “Las islas Malvinas”, “Right to self determination”, and “British pigs”. As I said it’s a bit weird, but you can then just pick the ball up and score without opposition.
I’m sure this technique would work on Carlos Delfino, as well as Luis Scola and Manu Ginobili. Next time I’m at a game where one of them is playing I’ll be sure to try it out.
