Last year, there was a quote from a college scout which described Ben McLemore’s shooting as video-game-esque. I don’t know about you, but if Ben’s playing style was anything like how I play video games, he would be scoring 60 PPG on 44% shooting. Chris Smoove is a popular 2K youtuber, but he tries too hard to run plays and get assists. In DTB’s world, you just call for the ball until you get it, then run around and do crossovers until a somewhat open shot presents itself.
Hmm…sounds like Allen Iverson to me. That guy was a true visionary! But that’s neither here nor there. Back to Ben.
When will people stop giving this guy a free pass to suck at shooting? He’s been stuck near 36% for a while now. Watching this game, it’s easy to see why: he shoots a lot of long two-pointers that aren’t exactly open looks. All those fancy-pants advanced stats guys with their calculators and their pocket protectors would love to see shots from that range fall by the wayside, and Ben is strengthening their case. For all our sakes, Ben, you’d better starting shooting better. I love watching dudes splash 18-foot jumpers.
