If you are anything like me (6’5”, rippling muscles, exquisitely proportioned face, perfect jumpshot) you were really looking forward to watching the Timberwolves this year. Ricky Rubio throwing lobs to Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine? Pekovic pekking the crap out of opposing centers? Anthony Bennett not being a bust? They had an exciting thing going on.
Then injuries happened, again. Ricky Rubio was the catalyst for those other dudes to succeed; without him they aren’t nearly as good. Their cadre of young players show flashes of greatness, but not enough to make the actual games anything other than a chore to watch.
Shabazz Muhammad did some exciting things this game, coincidentally during the parts I was not watching. Dammit. He dunked it thricely, including a poster on the Kaveman. As a bonus, he even converted a shot from the post with his right hand. As the Timberwolves’ announcer said, it’s kind of like seeing a unicorn. Except instead of a mystical creature of pure beauty, glowing a radiant white, it was a freakishly large and sweaty dude manipulating a ball into a ring.
