The Magic are bad yet again, despite the seeming quality of their roster. They’ve got a ton of players who you look at and say “I would def take him on my team he’s a stud sandwich”. Tobias Harris? Stud sandwich. Victor Oladipo? Stud sandwich. Nikola Vucevic? You guessed it. Stud sandwich.
After much gathering of advanced stats I think I have figured out the problem: they don’t shoot enough free throws. They’re called free throws for a reason; you get points without even having to really do anything. A team that gets more of these cost-free points is more likely to do well than a team that doesn’t.
Notice in this highlight video the lack of free throws, except at the end. Nikola may have been canning all these jumpers, but that’s not how you get to the stripe. Look at Wade! Just flop around a little bit and pretty soon you’ll be rolling in championships.
