Zach LaVine is the one person that can possibly save the dunk contest this year. Sure, you could have maybe Gerald Green or something, but Zach has the highest potential for aerial acrobatics of this year’s entrants.
Zach’s not a great in-game dunker, most guards like him only get to throw it down in transition, and they are rightfully cautious lest they blow guaranteed points. He tried to rewrite that portion of the scouting report with a nice put-back slammeroni, but we’re not going to see high-flying windmill posterizations any time soon.
The Timberwolves have responded to his gaining entry into the storied dunk-off by actually giving him real minutes, a privilege he had lost after a disappoint stint as starting PG. Remember when Jeremy “Did he even play that year?” Evans won the dunk contest? No one wants something like that to happen again.
