The Lakers commentators pointed out to me and all other ignoramuses who were watching their broadcast that Julius Randle is one of nine players who is averaging a double-double this season. I didn’t even realize! If I had known that he was regularly putting up double digit totals in multiple stat categories, my hype for him would have been much more ardent. Double-doubles are like a magical achievement that negate anything bad you might be doing on the court. So all of the bad things that Randle does on the court? Negated. Shooting 44%? Doesn’t matter. Too many jumpers? Look at the double-doubles, bitch.
With Kobe out of the picture very shortly, we may soon get an idea of how Randle plays on a team that isn’t in total disarray. I will hold off on making unfair, harsh judgments until that time comes.
