Just when it looked like Jamal Murray had fully escaped the clutches of his season-starting slump, he’s gone and fallen into an even deeper one. Before tonight, he had had one double-digit scoring game in the previous month, 13 points on 4 of 15 shooting against the Spurs where he chucked some shots that no rookie should even think about taking. That was two games ago; before that, it had been over a month since a “good” game for him.
Does this game mark the end of his latest slumpy-wump? Probably not, but it was good to see him not chuck so many threes and instead take it to the rack. He had some tough finishes that are probably not makeable on a consistent basis for him yet, but he made them tonight, and that’s what matters, at least until the next game, where it doesn’t matter at all.
