Heat fans have, mercifully, stopped crowing so much about how they stole Justise Winslow in the draft. I think the logic was, since Danny Ainge threw his basketful of picks at the Hornets to get the 9th pick and draft him, he must be some sort of super-stud that would immediately transform a team.
Turns out, he’s a super-stud defender but is such a limited offensive player that the whole thing is a wash. Plus, the Heat have a bunch of other youngsters who are more exciting on the more exciting end of the court (the buckets side of the court), so Winslow gets ignored in favor of, like, Dion Waiters, even if they’re about the same quality of player.
Yeah, I went there. Don’t @ me.
Winslow was probably supposed to progress in his offensive game over these last few years, but unless you think his hot three-point shooting this year is sustainable, I don’t think he has. He did score 16 tonight, a season high, but it was all layups. Those, he can make.
