Other players for the Kings are stepping up now, such that Richaun Holmes is no longer the clear-cut best player on the team. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted, the “Tear it down and build around Rich Holmie Chaun” era of Kings basketball. Or, if you don’t like that title for the era, i’ve got a better one: “Pax Holmesana”. No one will ever be able to take that era away from us, unless some crazy 1984-esque stuff happens under the direction of Adam Silver who wants his league to not be a league where a guy like Holmes is the best player on a team for any length of time.
So other guys are stepping up, but it’s not like Holmes is getting worse because of it. He’s still just as good, it’s just now there are other players to take the attention off of him and he concentrate on doing what he does best: dunking it hard. Actually, he was concentrating on that the whole time. He doesn’t really have much of an offensive game besides dunking, other than the occasional jump hook. The 76ers tried to turn him into a shooter, and it was kind of working for a little bit, but with the Kings, nope. They have more important things to do than trying to turn random players into stretch-fours.
Holmes had 18 points with a big chunk of the third quarter still to play, so his final total of 20 is a tad disappointing. And those last 2 points came at the very end on some free-throws (that did have some relevancy to the outcome of the game, thanks to the Suns insane clutchtime scoring). Was Dewayne Dedmon taking his looks? If he was, I’m not going to be happy.
