Delon Wright 17 Points/9 Assists Full Highlights (12/1/2019)

It should come as no surprise that this is the most assists anyone on the Mavericks not named Luka Doncic has gotten. I am moderately surprised, though, that Jalen Brunson managed a game with 8.

On the Mavericks, Doncic is the one who gets to pass the ball. If he’s in the game, your job as his teammate is to shoot the ball when he passes it to you. Not try and pass it again, because that would selfishly be robbing Doncic of a potential assist. When Doncic isn’t on the court, the offense returns to something an average NBA team would run, with Delon Wright or maybe Jalen Brunson acting as a perfectly normal point guard.

Unless some injuries happen to very specific players, or the Mavericks go through a stretch where every game is a serious blowout from the first quarter, the Grizzlies version of Wright that we saw will be absent. The triple-double version of Wright. He might still be there, in fact he probably is still there, but the touches simply aren’t. The Grizzlies of the end of last season had nothing better to do than let Wright get triple-doubles. The present-day Mavericks have aspirations. I think. Winning might be secondary to Doncic triple-doubles, though.
