Gary Trent: adequate Rodney Hood replacement? Absolutely!
Gary Trent: adequate Jusuf Nurkic replacement? Definitely not.
Gary Trent: adequate Damian Lillard replacement: No.
Gary Trent: adequate Mike & Mike replacement (the ‘Zers former commentary duo)? Throw him in the booth and find out.
As you can see, Gary Trent is doing a fine job in the Rodney Hood role that abruptly needed filling after a Very Bad Thing happened to Hood. It seems like Trent’s scoring is seeing an uptick as he gains the confidence of his coaches and gets more playing time. You’re definitely not going to confuse him with a center or a point guard (or a commentary guy), but he will competently fill in the shooting guard spot and his presence will rarely be the most annoying thing on the court at any given time (unless you are severely irritated by his man-bun made out of braids).
Here’s a fun stat: out of 76 players this season shooting above 40% from three (not bothering to remove the players who have only one or two threes this season because I’m tired and want to go to bed), Gary Trent is 32nd in total makes, and that placement will only go up after tonight’s stats are taken into account. That’s not a super useful stat, but it was fun, right? You definitely had fun reading it? Please say you enjoyed my fun stat.
