I feel like the world at large has already forgotten about Brandon Ingram. Part of is it that they want to forget (aside from Ben Simmons) that his draft class ever existed. The other part of it that Lonzo Ball and his crazy family are hogging all the headlines, and Kyle Kuzma has come in already significantly better than him.
Ingram has upped basically everything over his dismal rookie season, and is now averaging almost 16 per game. That’s a lot! That’s really a lot for him being a bust (as so many, including myself probably but who knows if I was joking or not, called him), even if it isn’t the most impactful scoring punch.
I figured out another part of the problem; his game is too janky-looking for mass-market appeal. He can be smooth, sometimes, but his jumper is too pointy and his drives are stop-start adventures into the paint. The Kevin Durant comparisons he garnered are looking worse by the day, if they ever looked good at all, which they didn’t, and why should they, when they were all made by people who don’t actually watch basketball.
Yes, I just pulled out the “doesn’t watch basketball” argument. Sorry. It won’t happen again.
