Just one game. I just wanted the Pistons to win one game. Not the series. Just one game. Marcus Morris looked like he was going to single-handedly carry his team to that win with an eighteen-point first half, but he didn’t take as many shots in the second half and they lost. Do we blame Marcus for not demanding the ball or do we blame Reggie Jackson for not getting it to him often enough? Or do we just blame Drummond’s poor shooting from the uncontested-fifteen-foot-set-shot line?
I’m going to be honest here. I wanted the Cavs to be exposed. And, if we’re being honest (which I already said I was doing), the Cavs actually did kind of get exposed by letting three of the four games in the series get too close for comfort. But the exposure would have been way more exposed if the Pistons had actually won one of the games that they were so close to winning. Really, a series between an eight-seed and a one-seed should be an absolute blowout unless there are injuries to key players or something.
Now the off-season starts in Detroit. There are a lot of questions: what happens to Spencer Dinwiddie? Will Drummond practice his free throws? Who will Stanley Johnson work out with? Will it be LeBron? How many people does Morris punch? How many times does Morris get arrested for punching people? Can this core of players ever be better than a low playoff seed? Is it possible to bring back Ben Gordon?
