Jake Layman snuck towards the visitor’s locker room after the game. It was actually pretty easy to avoid security personnel if you knew all the back ways and unused corridors. In no time at all, he was there; he entered brazenly, not caring which Warriors player saw him.
The target of Jake’s quest was facing away from him, taking off his jersey and putting on his “going-out” clothes. Jake silently walked behind him, unnoticed by the few remaining Warriors players in the area. “Hello Klay,” he said quietly and creepily.
Klay yelped slightly as he spun around. When he saw that the speaker was a Blazers player, he immediately became defensive. “Yo, man, you’re not supposed to be in here. Scram.”
Jake ignored this command. “I stole your powers, Klay,” he said monotonally.
Klay had been about to issue more directives to leave, but the words froze in his throat when he comprehended what Jake had said. Then, his facial expression turned to one of confusion. “No you didn’t. You never did any such thing.”
“Yes I did, Klay,” Jake replied in the same flat voice. “Your three-point shot is mine now. While you shoot 10% on the season, I make nearly every attempt. It is because I cast a magic spell on you, Klay, to rob you of your powers and transfer them to me.” He made some vague finger-wiggling motions with his hands to demonstrate the power of the spell.
Looking concerned, Klay said, “That’s crazy talk. You never put a magic spell on me. I’m just in a slump.” But he sounded unsure of himself.
“I did it at night while you were sleeping. You had no idea,” Jake said, staring directly into Klay’s eyes. “You only cried a little bit.”
“I didn’t cry!” Klay retorted.
Jake waved his hand in an exaggerated manner. “Bye-bye for now, Klay. I’m sure we’ll talk again sometime. Probably when you come begging to me to give me your three-point-shooting powers back.” Then, he turned dramatically away from Klay and strode from the locker room while Klay yelled pleas for him to come back.
When he was standing outside of the locker room again, his face burst into a smile. “I totally got him.”
