Ricky Rubio going down is good for fans of youth movements, but maybe not so good for fans of winning basketball. I hold the opinion that Rubio was responsible for a significant part of Karl-Anthony Town’s ROY campaign, and that without him, he along with the rest of the Timberwolves will devolve into a dreary sludge of potential and frustration.
I haven’t seen a ton of Kris Dunn, but if he’s even half the passer that Rubio is, I would consider that a win. Good news is that Kris is maybe the same caliber of defender, and I think he’s hit more dribble-move threes (1) than Rubio has in his entire career, so I can’t be too hard on him.
Luckily his first starting gig came against a Grizzlies team who was somehow even less experienced than the T-Wolves. Things won’t come so easily against teams with actual NBA-level players not just starting, but also on the bench. Still, 10 points is pretty good, 6 assists is pretty good, and 5 steals is damn good. It takes a while for rookies to make an impact in the league, so this performance has him already ahead of schedule.
