I just want Anthony Bennett to succeed at this point. Success is relative for him; he will never live up to the expectations of being the first overall pick. Just seeing him stick on a team, providing useful minutes off the bench on a consistent basis would be enough. He showed some stuff in Minnesota that makes me think he can pull that off.
The Nets are the perfect team for him to find his footing. They have no expectations, and all Bennett has to do to earn minutes is beat out Luis Scola. And it looks like they have given him free reign to chuck; before this game he was shooting a ludicrous 10 threes per 36. This was the first game where he scored and was reasonably efficient, but as the season wears on those things will happen more and more, first separately, then together. And I will be there every step of the way, making highlights as a form of encouragement.
Damn, looking back on those paragraphs, you’d think I have a damn crush on this dude. Totally sentimental and sappy. I’m sorry. To atone, I think it’s time to break out my created neologism that I save for special occasions:
Anthony Bennett is a scrubbust.
