Wilson Chandler: Sixth Man of the Year front-runner?
Wilson Chandler: Sixth Man of the Year front-runner.
Notice the difference between those two sentences? It’s subtle, but it’s there: I removed the question mark and replaced it with a period. Just one punctuation mark, yet the whole meaning is changed!
In the first sentence, I am proposing that Wilson Chandler could possibly be the leading candidate to win the NBA’s 6MOY award. A sentence that many neutral NBA viewers could agree with, but also one that some could disagree with.
I then take that sentence and flip it on it’s head. No longer am I merely proposing that he maybe is a leading candidate for the award. I am stating, IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, that he IS the leading candidate, END OF DISCUSSION. Maybe a few more people will disagree with that than with the first one. That’s okay. Not everyone can be right all the time.
This 32-point game as a starter, oddly, only helps his chances. Everyone knows that they only look at raw PPG to determine who wins this award. If he goes right back to the bench, the game will still count towards his averages but he will have came off the bench for all but one contest. Will Barton was in a similar position last year until he died; hopefully Wilson doesn’t suffer the same end, because I want to see a Nuggets player win an award for once.
