I really liked Nene “Graybeard” Nolastname back in his Denver days. That seems like so long ago, but at the same time, it doesn’t seem like he played for the Wizards for very long at all. You’re telling me he spent over 4 seasons there? No way. It was one or two at most, and I guess the third one where he stopped trying and forced his way out.
Now he’s on the Rockets, and he’s still doing all the Nene things that he was doing before, minus the playmaking that he flashed in Washington. And he’s shooting way more at the rim than he was in Washington. The Rockets really, REALLY don’t need (or want) his midrange shooting, so that has gone by the wayside a little bit.
Is it just me, or does he look a little fitter this season as well? It might be the grey creeping into his beard, but he looks slimmer, more mobile. Whatever the case, he did good work tonight against the Thunder, hitting two game-winning free throws with .7 seconds left after a questionable foul by Jerami Grant. I thought refs never called fouls in those kind of situations?
