This game between the Suns and Knicks at MSG was the perfect setting for some serious beef resolution to happen. Remember, Marquese Chriss and Kristaps Porzingis have been in the midst of a major beef (extra beefy please) ever since Chriss tackled Porzingis and threw him to the ground earlier in the season. They didn’t exchange punches at that point, but there was some shoving going on, and now they’re in full beef mode.
Here’s how it should have gone down: Marquese storms through the halls of MSG, gruffly yelling “Where is he? Where is he?” while his teammates try and fail to calm him down. Finally, Marquese locates the home locker room, where his target has arrived early to get in some quiet meditation before the big game. Bursting through the door, Marquese spots Kristaps sitting all by himself, and yells “Found you, bitch!”
Porzingis looks startled but not surprised, because he knows about the intensity of the beef between him and Marquese. He expected something like this to happen, so he stands up and withdraws the small blade he has tucked into his shorts. “Come any closer and I’ll cut you,” he snarls.
Marquese takes out his own blade, of similar size to Kristaps’, and coolly says “We’re going to have a good old-fashioned knife fight.” He gets ready to start stabbing his foe when the knife is knocked out of his hand by Kristaps, who has thrown his own knife so that they’re both disarmed. Marquese roars with anger and charges at Kristaps; they lock arms and tussle for a bit.
Knicks players are arriving in the locker room but when they see the fight, they turn around to leave. They know that Marquese is legit crazy and will not hesitate to beat up people he is not beefing with. Meanwhile, Marquese and Porzingis are exchanging punches to the head. “You’re a dead man! I hate your guts!” Marquese yells after a particularly well-placed punch to the mouth enrages him. Kristaps disengages himself and runs towards the showers while Marquese gives chase.
The tiles of the shower are slippery and Marquese falls onto his back. Kristaps emerges from behind a wall, sees that his opponent is down, and executes an elbow-drop on him. As Marquese moans in pain, Kristaps retrieves his blade and goes back to the shower, where he squats near the injured man. He flicks the knife out, holds it in front of Marquese’s bruised face, and whispers, “If you come after me again, I’mma cut you up real good, bitch boy.”
Then he picks up Marquese and tosses him in the hallway outside the locker room. Fade to black.
That’s how it should have gone down, but as far as I’m aware, nothing even remotely that cool happened last night. Talk about a missed opportunity.
