Tyson Chandler is currently sitting at sixth league-wide in rebounds per game, 12.2. Only Whiteside, Jordan, Drummond, Howard, and Gobert are better, and his Total Rebound Percentage would be the best of his career if the season ended right now.
That’s pretty crazy for a guy who was written off by nearly everybody (including yours truly) for being too old to meaningfully contribute anymore. Then, you look at the rest of the Suns roster and the insane rebounding numbers start to look a little less crazy. Realistically, the only other rebounder on the entire team is Alex Len, unless you count Alan Williams, which you shouldn’t because he doesn’t play. P.J. Tucker is a good rebounder for his position, but he’s cancelled out by Marquese Chriss who is too skinny and inexperienced to be more than an average rebounder. And then there’s Dragan Bender. Who knows if he can grab rebounds.
So there are a lot of rebounds available for Chandler, and he grabs them because he’s taller than everybody else, and, I mean, SOMEBODY has to rebound the ball. That’s what it comes down to. That’s my expert NBA analysis. And all that analysis has made me sleepy.
