For once, the national broadcasters on TNT actually said something I agree with: Willy Hernangomez needs more minutes, and they need to come at the expense of Joakim Noah’s minutes, because Joakim Noah is not the future (other than the part about him being on team for another half-decade because of his crazy contract). Hernangomez might or might not be the future; you can at least try him out to see whether or not the Knicks’ future includes him. One thing I know is that he can shoot free throws and jumpers without spinning the ball sideways, and he almost always hits rim when he does so.
The minutes reallocation already happening, because Hernangomez got 24 minutes against the Pacers to Noah’s 11, but the point still stands. The public is demanding more Willies on our TV sets and on our computer screens. We don’t want Joakims anymore. We want Willies. Big Willies. Close up shots of big Willies. Hopefully Hornacek is paying attention.
