I’m not even going to speculate on Thon Maker’s age. That whole thing is played out, no one cares anymore, the evidence has been presented and dismissed and re-presented and re-dismissed and now people just want to see him get minutes. And that’s all I’m going to say about that. If you want to know what I really think about his age, I left a hint in the thumbnail. Note: the hint doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that the camera angle kind of makes him look like a peanut.
Maker’s stats have looked good this season in limited minutes. What hasn’t looked as good, however, is his actual play on the court. He hustles, sure, but he’s a walking turnover/foul machine. The fouls are represented in his stats, the turnovers are not. Somehow he only has three in over a hundred minutes played, which is an insanely good rate for any player, much less one who often fails to catch a pass or secure a rebound.
Still, now that the Bucks are imploding, it would be nice to see him get more minutes, see if he can produce when given a bigger role than “it’s a blowout, might as well put him out there so he can flail around for a few minutes”. They’ve been slowly easing him into minutes during games where the outcome is still in question, including a start against Miami, so that’s a good start (HAHAHA why aren’t you laughing). He scored 8 quick points against the Raptors tonight, but the game wasn’t a big enough blowout for him to get minutes at the end of the game to maybe pad his stats a bit. What’s the point of watching the Bucks if he’s not even going to get to play that much? I can’t think of any other players worth watching on that team.
