Tonight, Dragan Bender discovered the secret to getting high point totals in the NBA: shoot and make a bunch of threes. That’s it. Just stand behind the long line and let it fly. Some guy named Stephen Curry discovered that strategy and utilized it to perfection and I think he won MVP a couple times or something. So you know it’s good.
This is the most points Bender has ever scored in an officially-sanctioned NBA regular-season contest. Ever. I won’t go so far as to say it’s his most complete game, because that 15-pointer he had a month ago contained a wider variety of scoring moves, and he’s had even earlier games featuring all the other things in the boxscore. Still, him proving to be a competent outside shooter is perhaps the quickest path to him being a good basketball player.
Also: if you noticed that about half of this video’s runtime consists of the commentator intoning “proud to own the three-point zone Fulton Homes donates one-hundred dollars to Suns charities”, that was on purpose. I’m starting a campaign to make people aware of how unbelievably annoying it is, how it stifles additional commentary. It totally ruins this vid, does it not?
