Clint Capela is averaging 20 and 15 per 36 minutes this year. Clint Capela. The guy who, four years ago, took 6 games to even make a shot and 10 to make a free throw. The potential for insane dunkage was always there with him, but I didn’t think for a second that he would become this kind of impact player for the Rockets.
Granted, he’s the kind of player who stats paint out to be better than he really is, since all he has to do is receive perfect passes from Houston’s pair of perfect point guards. It still takes skill to do all those dunks, though. Imagine if it was Ekpe Udoh in his place. We’d get maybe one lob dunk a game to go with the 6 rebounds. Capela has a role, and he plays it to absolute perfection. No one else can replace him in the league, except for JaVale McGee (I’m just playing for real though that would be sick make it happen).
Capela flashed a little bit of touch around the rim in this game, taking a break from dunking it all the time to do some little finger-rolls and stuff. Now if he can just add a mini-jumper, actually wait, D’Antoni would never let him shoot it even if he could. Okay. Just skip straight to taking threes I guess.
