Elfrid Payton just scored 30 points, which is more than he has ever scored before and maybe more than he will ever score again, and also added 10 assists for good measure, but there was not a single point in this video where I considered myself “excited”. He’s capable of putting nice stats on occasion, but he does it in the least compelling way possible.
I almost got excited when he had that crossover late in the video, but then he got “fouled” and missed the shot, so that little flame of marginal excitement got snuffed out quick. I also felt something when I noticed how big his hair-thing has gotten, but that was really more of “intrigued disgust” than excitement.
I can just keep dissing him in this description because I don’t think he has any fans. Magic fans may begrudgingly accept that he’s a decent point guard sometimes, but that’s about it. He only ever gets noticed because of the hair; if he didn’t have that, there would be no one to notice what he truly is, which is a non-shooting PG who doesn’t sizzle with the handles very often.
I foresee more good games in the future for him; he might be the best player on the Magic right now with all the injuries, and he’ll have to carry a big load if they want to luck into another win before this season ends.
