Jerian Grant was the direct beneficiary of Nikola Mirotic and Lauri Markkanen being hotter than the surface of the sun during this game against the Pacers. All he had to do was hit them with passes that were reasonably timely and accurate, and then those dudes would hit their shots and Grant would get free assists. I’m not saying that Grant didn’t make some good plays, because he did at least a few times, but mostly he just made the expected pass and it resulted in a bucket.
Bulls fans have gotten hyped for Kris Dunn and his future All-Starriness, but they have much less hype for the other in-development point guard on the roster. Is it because Grant is physically uglier than Dunn (Grant looks like a turnip tee bee aitch), or because Grant doesn’t project to be as big a scorer, or because Dunn was more heavily touted coming out of college, or because reaching for Grant in the draft was one of the reasons Phil Jackson got fired from the Knicks? In any case, Bulls fans should be happy for any good games this guy has, because that makes him easier to trade, and then you can free up minutes for Dunn.
