Montrezl “Mon-Trezzle” Harrell has succeeded Blake Griffin as as high-flying, all-dunks power forward of the future in Clipperland. There’s just two problems with that statement. First, Harrell only had two dunks in this game, so calling him “all-dunks” is like calling me “all-fast-break-layups” because there was one time where I actually converted a fast-break layup in a pickup game (usually I get paranoid about having my shot blocked and throw the ball off the backboard without hitting rim). Second, Blake Griffin has not been high-flying in any sense for the past few seasons. He has modified his game to include a lot of jumpshots and post-moves. Rookie year Blake Griffin is not walking through that door.
So my opening statement is actually totally false and I’m sorry you had to read it. The only similarities between Harrell and Griffin are that they’re both power forwards and they both have red hair. That’s about it. Harrell will definitely be getting more minutes under this new arrangement so he will have plenty of in-game reps to add jumpshots/post-moves into his arsenal and then we can revisit this comparison.
