Apparently a point guard averaging 13 and 6 while shooting 52 percent from the field is only worth a second-round pick these days? This snarky comment was brought to you by the Payton Hair Preservation Association, whose stated goal is the preservation of Elfrid Payton’s hair due to its status as a unique representation of mankind’s cultural heritage.
I don’t want to see any comments talking about how good this dude is. I made a ton of highlight vids for him on the Magic, way too many vids that were all way too long, and the aggregate consensus from the comments of those vids was that he could be okay sometimes but that was it. There was no one, I repeat, NO ONE, who was actually excited or hyped for this dude, or thought he was really good and being held down, or anything.
And Suns fans shouldn’t even pretend to think that they wanted him. They didn’t. None of them did. They can rationalize it all they want now, but there was not a single one of them who thought “we should go out and get Elfrid Payton”.
To Payton’s credit, he had a pretty good debut for the Suns. Not much different from what he was doing in Orlando, but pretty good. If he had done this exact performance a week earlier, I wouldn’t have done it (20 points or 10 assists is the rule), but I remember how unreasonably hyped everyone was for Isaiah Canaan (typing that name hurts now) and this dude is a really real NBA player. Gotta give the people what they want.
