What happened to Wilson Chandler? I remember advocating for him multiple times for 6MOY, he ended up starting too many games but averaged a career-high 16 points per game anyway. He was GOOD. I liked him a lot, then this season came around and he regressed hard. Way harder than one thinks a guy who just turned 30 should.
He’s playing basically the same amount of minutes, but shooting way fewer shots and shooting the shots he does shoot less efficiently. Tellingly, his assist numbers are about the same: he’s looking to pass the ball almost every time he touches it. He doesn’t want to shoot anymore. Something broke him, just like something broke Markelle Fultz.
It’s not that bad, truthfully. There are still signs that he can return to form. Like tonight! 26 points is what I would call a vintage Chandler performance, the kind of scoring he was doing all the time last year but not all this one. And did I catch a smile as he was walking back to the bench after his final jumper? I did, and I immortalized that emotion in the thumbnail of this video. Smiles are rare from this dude.
