I can’t tell what the Magic are doing right now, I don’t know why they’d sell so low on Elfrid Payton, but that’s in the past now. It doesn’t matter what they’re doing, because Payton is now a whole continent away where they can’t hurt him anymore. For the time being, at least. Another thing I can’t tell is if the Suns have any intention of keeping him after this season.
Payton did a ton of damage in the first quarter of this game against the Warriors, single-handedly keeping the undertalented Suns in it against a superteam. His scoring, obviously, didn’t last the whole game, because him scoring 50 is just never going to happen, but when it did tail off, so did the Suns. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted, the commentators even made a joke about his hair blocking his defender’s eyes instead of his own, but it dissolved into a bunch of ball-hogging and bricked jumpers.
That’s the deal with Payton, it seems like. He likes to have the ball and do things at his own pace. That’s maybe what the Suns need right now, but when Devin Booker comes back? There will definitely be some thrown punches.
