The comments of the Suns commentators got me thinking: when are we gonna see Troy “Triple Troy” Daniels in the three-point contest? Getting into the contest isn’t all about percentage (although Daniels’ percentage is currently a somewhat pedestrian [for him] 40.2%); it’s also about volume, and that’s where Daniels falls short. One of three things would need to happen for him to make it: 1.) He leaves the Suns (where he’ll forever be held back by Devin Booker) and goes to a team where he can shoot eight threes a game; 2.) He maintains his current volume but shoots 45% instead of 40%; or 3.) he implants electrodes into the skulls of whatever committee picks the contestants and subtly alters their thoughts.
Then again, Jason Kapono made the contest and he was a super low volume shooter, but he had the benefit of being the “goofy white guy who can only shoot threes” (see also: Steve Novak), a benefit that Daniels will almost certainly never attain for himself. So DTB’S OFFICIAL HOPE is that Daniels goes to the Hawks next year as the starting shooting guard and he averages 15 PPG on ten three-point attempts per game. Then he can go to the three-point contest and dominate.
