Jaylen Brown allegedly had five dunks in this game against the Knicks. That is what the play-by-play data alleges. That is the NBA version of the facts. However, the DTB version of the facts states that Brown only dunked it three times. The missing dunks? They were just layups that should have been dunks except for Brown finding out right at the end that he didn’t quite have enough power to throw down a real dunk, hence him just sort of dropping the ball into the basket.
Is the NBA in the charity business now? Do they just give people dunks in the box-score when the player in question should have dunked it but didn’t? Is J.J. Barea all of a sudden going to start “dunking” it in-game just because he’s driving hard to the rack and gets like 90% of the way to a dunk? Maybe they should just start giving field goals and assists to any player they want since obviously they don’t care about accuracy here.
