I feel sorta bad for Hassan Whiteside. He was one of the biggest stories in the league a couple of years ago, and now it seems like the Heat don’t even want him that much. His minutes are getting taken away by a rookie who looks like Dwight Howard but is named Bam Adebayo, and his team keeps losing close games. Also Joel Embiid came along who plays the same sort of “heel” role but can shoot threes so everyone cares about him more.
Adebayo is part of Whiteside’s problems, but I don’t blame him for that. It’s not his fault that he is somehow playable as a rookie even though he was supposed to be a raw prospect. He’s probably as surprised as anybody that he can go onto NBA courts and do NBA-type things without looking too overmatched. Most of his NBA-type things are dunk-type things, which is basically how Whiteside is as well. Can you say redundancy?
I’m talking so much about how sorry I feel for Whiteside, but then I look at his contract and I think he’ll be fine. He’s getting paid a lot of money, and he’ll be getting that money no matter what thanks to the NBA’s guaranteed contracts. Now I’m feeling sorry for NFL players instead.
