It took a while, but here we are: Zach Collins’ first highlight video of the season. First DTB highlight video, at least. I’m sure there have been others, made by people too eager to highlight unworthy performances. This is his first, MAYBE second, game where you analyze the end product and are like “yeah, he could be an NBA player even though his eyes are sunken way the heck in his head”.
At first glance, he doesn’t look the part of an NBA player. He’s skinny, he’s white, and he’s got something going on with his hair that just doesn’t scream “sportsperson” to me. But that’s how Kristaps Porzingis looks (or looked, because he’s dead now), and people are fawning all over him. I’m not saying Collins is the next Porzingis, but I am saying that he’s probably the next Porzingis and you are all fools for sleeping on him.
Collins has displaced Meyers Leonard in the Portland rotation, a fact that makes me both happy and sad. Happy, because I love seeing raw rookies go out and do stuff on an NBA court, but sad because Leonard is one of my favorite players to ironically cheer for. Heck, sometimes it crossed the line and I really earnestly cheered for him.
Speaking of Leonard, the Bucks offer Thon Maker for him, straight, no chaser. If there is a god in heaven, please deliver us from this evil. Please.
