Austin Rivers is averaging 15 points per game this season. I’m gonna be honest here, when he first came into the league he didn’t look like a guy who would ever average 15 points per game. He looked like the kind of guy who would be out of the league after his rookie deal was up. You can make all the jokes you want about his dad saving his career, and I bet they would be funny jokes, but he is, no doubt, playing effective basketball this season.
By the way, do you guys remember the time his dad saved him from having to toil away in the D-League for the rest of his career, using his prime years trying to scavenge the occasional 10-day? Hahaha! That was so funny! Poor little baby Austin!
It’s to the point now where I’d like to see him on a team where his dad isn’t the coach. Would he still be good? Would he better? Probably not better, but he would still be able to shoot his still-slightly-weird threes (his form was so borked as a rookie, it’s better now), and no one would make fun of him anymore. He’d be his own man, producing in the NBA on his own merits without even a hint of nepotism.
