Cheick “Discount Diallo Cheick” Diallo had one of the most anomalous early-career performances that I can remember when he scored nineteen points in his third NBA game. The highlight video depicting the feat is gone now (keep praying for my channel to return and eventually Jesus will hear you), but the memory of it lives on forever. I thought he might be able to build on that scoring outburst, but Alvin Gentry thought differently, because Discount Diallo Cheick was getting hella DNP’s even after proving that he was able and ready to contribute.
DeMarcus Lousins’ injury (hold this L, DeMarcus) has opened up minutes that weren’t previously available, meaning Diallo has been getting a steady ten minutes per contest or more. For the first time this season, he actually capitalized on those minutes by putting together a scoring performance worthy of being highlit. Remember how I think that Alexis Ajinca is a beast who could average 17/8 in the right situation? Well, it’s sort of good that he’s injured because that means we get to see Diallo get real-life minutes in real-life games that actually matter. I’m conflicted right now. I guess I’ll be over here hoping that Diallo turns into Ajinca 1.2.
