This is Robert Covington’s best scoring game since the very beginning of December. Three whole months since he last scored 20. But he’s playing tons of minutes despite his extended slump, because Brett Brown knows what’s up, and what’s up is that Covington is still a positive player on the court even when he’s not scoring. He fills out the starting lineup nicely, and ESPN’s RAPM thinks he’s the 21st-best player in the league. That might be overstating it, because that stat comes up with some weird results sometimes, but it definitely means something.
His percentages aren’t even that bad compared to the rest of his career, but his shot attempts per minute have been going down every year he’s been in the league. He’s one of the prototypical “3-and-D” guys, but pretty soon it’s gonna just be “D” because he’ll be the one not touching the ball while Simmons/Embiid/Fultz/LeBron take turns dumping on everybody.
