Pistons fans like to complain that their team drafted Luke Kennard instead of Donovan Mitchell, who went the next selection, but let’s take a look at the factual facts as provided by the boxscore of this game:
Donovan Mitchell: 13 points.
Luke Kennard: 18 points.
Wow, would you look at that. Who’s the bust now? Hint: it’s not Kennard, and it’s actually not Mitchell either but it’s actually D.J. Wilson god damn it. Bleaaarggh.
I think Can’t Van Coach has checked out now. I think the players have checked out now. The fans were never checked in in the first place. The Pistons are seriously depressing me right now, I’m not even in the state of Michigan, but the miasma of failure is wafting across Lake Michigan into my state and hitting me right in the nostrils. Kennard racked up some DNPs in some sort of attempt to regain control of their season, but it didn’t work, so they reversed course and are now playing him big minutes. That’s good, because at this point what they need to do is develop him and hope he turns into Giannis or Kawhi or something. Could happen. You never know.
