I wish I could say this was a revenge game for Michael Beasley, but, in what seems like a major career oversight, he hasn’t played for Charlotte, either as the Bobcats or Hornets, at all during his decade-long tenure in the NBA. He probably could’ve scored 30 a game on that one really bad Bobcats squad, for real.
Since this 27-point performance doesn’t count as a revenge game (unless maybe he’s getting revenge on Willy Hernangomez for abandoning him????), we have to figure out another reason why he would score so many points instead of just standing in the corner and pretending to not exist. I’m really struggling here; if it were me, I would probably just refuse to come into the game at all. Let someone else play, some young whippersnapper with something to prove, like Isaiah Hicks.
My best guess is that Beasley didn’t realize this whole game was a doomed endeavor from the start, and he tried to play to win even though that wasn’t ever going to happen. A valiant effort, but laughably misguided.
