I think the problem with the 76ers’ ball-movement-heavy offense is that it results in too many layups for J.J. Redick. Nobody came to the arena to watch Redick make layups. Nobody’s tuning in from home to watch Redick make layups. I’m not making highlight videos to show Redick making layups. However, since everybody on the 76ers is looking for cutters when they have the ball in their hands, Redick is making way too many layups, driving home the fact that layups truly are better referred to as LAMEups.
I’m pretty sure that when Redick was on the Bucks, he didn’t make a single layup because there was nobody on that team who could pass him the ball. That’s the way it should be. He should only be making jumpshots, preferably of the three-point variety.
Here’s a question for discussion: if the Sixers make the ECF Conference Finals, will they re-sign Redick no matter the price, knowing that his shooting game is immeasurably valuable in terms of opening up the floor for Simmons/Embiid and that any replacement they could get for him is likely to be worse?
