Norman “Normal Powenn” Powell has been broken for roughly a year and a half. I don’t know what exactly happened to cause him to break, but whatever it was, it really broke him good. His second year in the league saw him play a large role on a good team, and it only seemed like he would get better from that point on. He didn’t. From being a premier bench player/spot starter in the 2016-17 season to being nearly unplayable in the next season, Powell’s fall was swift and unexplainable.
(I’m assuming it’s unexplainable. Maybe there are some Canadians out there who purport to have explanations. But if the explanations are not related to Dwane Casey, DeMar DeRozan, Maple Syrup, Inuits, or Francophones, I don’t awnt to hear them)
Powell’s been a bit more playable this year, but hadn’t, up to this point, had a game which made you think “Yeah, this guy could be a good player again maybe at some point.” This is that game. I am currently thinking those exact thoughts. I peg Powell at having about a 40% chance of continuing to play well and a 60% chance of putting up stinkers in his next few games. Whatever the outcome of my prediction is, you can rest assured that I will return to this video description and edit it to better match what happened in reality.
