It would probably be a disservice to Chris Paul if I were to compare the smooth midrange scoring game of Monte “Tay Time” Morris to the legendary midrange wizardry of CP3 (now squandered, and not just because of his injury), so I’m not going to make that comparison.
It might also be an insult to D’Angelo Russell’s seeming emergence as an All-Star candidate to compare Morris’ buttery, aesthetic midrange jimbos to the more prolific jimboism of Russell, so I won’t make that comparison either.
However, a comparison between Morris’ confident, old-school midrange talents and the midrange talents of a certain Cavaliers rookie named Collin Sexton would be entirely warranted. Both these guys are attempting to bring the midrange game back in vogue after it languished for a few seasons while nerdy analytics guys told everybody to stop shooting those shots (I was one of those nerdy analytics guys for a while until I decided I liked being contrarian better). Are we experiencing a midrange mini-renaissance of sorts in the NBA, or am I just paying slightly more attention than I was before?
