It pains me to admit it, but there are times when my extensive (some would say encyclopedic) knowledge of the current state of the NBA fails me. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s devastating to my psyche. I am reduced to a shell of my former shelf, my identity lying shattered around me like a windowpane destroyed by a thrown rock.
One of the more recent instances of my failure to keep on top of NBA personnel was when Bruce Brown (not Bruce Bowen, but I might make that typo in the future) STARTED the season opener for the Pistons. Sure, he only played eighteen minutes, but he STARTED. And this was a guy who I absolutely did not recognize at all when I looked at the box-score for the game. Had I maybe seen his name in some draft-related article somewhere? Probably. But through the whole Summer League and preseason, he totally evaded my notice.
Brown hasn’t been the full-time starter. He gets DNP’s sometimes. But there are other times when it seems like his leash is way too long. Brown’s offensive game is not very good at all; he’s a shooting guard with no shot. Sort of like David Nwaba I guess? That guy is always my go-to comparison for guards with no jumpshot. I have a feeling Pistons fans are hot and cold with Brown; they like the defense he brings, but they don’t understand why he’s allowed to brick so many shots when he’s the last guy who should be shooting them.
Actually, now that I think about it, this dude is basically the same player as Stanley Johnson. That really sucks for Piston fans.
