Goran “All-Star PG” Dragic double-digit assist games last year: 1.
Justise “Bust” Winslow double-digit assist games this year: 2.
That’s all that needs to be said. The fact that a bust like Bustise Winsbust could out-assist a supposed star-caliber like Goran Dragic means that either Dragic is not as star-like as assumed, or that Winslow is not actually a bust after all. Or both. It could definitely be both. Since I’m afraid to be wrong (I’ve probably called Winslow a bust [usually in the form of “Bustise”] 100 times over the years), we’re going to with the first option. Dragic was widely regarded as a lackluster All-Star selection; this only confirms it.
I can’t quite tell because I don’t watch the Heat enough, but it seems like they’re doing better with him running the show over… Rodney McGruder? Was he the starting PG? It seems like he was, so I guess it makes sense that the Heat would be doing better. Winslow may not be a true PG, but at least he has some passing instincts that McGruder definitely doesn’t have.
Besides the passing that he’s finally getting to show, he’s scored in double figures in 9 straight games now. If he got some votes for MIP Improved Player, I wouldn’t even be mad. He deserves them. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a bust though. He still definitely is, and anything short of an MVP on a 60-win team won’t change my mind.
