Derrick White 18 Points/7 Assists Full Highlights (1/14/2018)

Sometimes bad things have to happen in order for good things to happen.

Case in point: Dejounte Murray getting injured. Obviously that was a Bad Thing. But his injury has allowed for the discovery of Derrick White. That’s a Good Thing. If White was only getting spot backup minutes behind Murray and Mills, we would have no idea how good he was. Only the most observant Spurs fans would be telling us, “watch out for this White kid, he could be dangerous a few years down the line.” But with Murray’s blown-out ACL and a Spurs roster that’s very low on actual PG talent, White was allowed to flourish earlier than expected.

Would it still be better if Murray was around? Of course. Since DTB doesn’t care about defense, I wasn’t as high on him as most people were, but he was shaping up to be an important piece for them. If he was playing now I don’t doubt that he’d be the third member of their “big three” after Aldridge and DeRozan. White has a long way to go to be considered a part of any “big three” other than the “big forehead three” which has White, Kyle Anderson, and uh, Anderson again in it.
