The Oklahoma City Thunder have a long and storied history of underwhelming shooting guards that are constantly scapegoated by fans because they don’t score enough points. Andre Roberson is one from more recent times, but there’s also basketball non-luminaries like Thabo Sefolosha, Daequan Cook, Alex Abrines, and Corey Brewer in that dubious lineage. Basically, the Thunder have usually tried to make do with a defensive-minded SG, simply because they have no other option.
I was ready to add Terrance Ferguson to this list of mediocre shooting guards that the Thunder have tried, and failed, to make work. But he’s had enough good games recently where I’m not ready to write him off quite yet. Remember, his path to the NBA was unorthodox to say the least, playing in Australia for a year after high school, and I don’t know what kind of weird Australian habits he had to unlearn before he was ready to contribute meaningfully in the NBA. No vegemite, for one thing.
