I’m freaking out right now, because I literally can’t remember a single thing about Rudy Gay’s multi-year tenure in Sacramento. He was there for 3.5 seasons, basically averaged 20 points during that time, and I can’t even bring to mind an image of him wearing the jersey, much less doing anything while wearing it. Did he have game-winners (NOOOOO! NOOOOOO! NOT THIS GUY!), did he have big poster dunks? Probably. But evidence of such things is not present in my clouded mindscape.
And really, all I remember from his time in Toronto is that he banned boxscores from the locker room because they made him look so bad.
Such is the life of a player like Gay, I guess. Doomed to be forgotten. He’s just a scorer, not a very exciting one even with his occasional bigtime jam, and he hasn’t been on any teams with any nationwide relevance. Remember, no one actually likes or watches the Spurs. They just know that Tim Duncan is supposed to be a top-10 player and that Popovich is the greatest coach ever and they parrot those opinions while trying their darndest not to actually watch their games. Even moreso since all the classic Spurs players have disappeared. You really think people are tuning into to check out LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay? Pfffft.
